The CZSO is one of the most trustworthy institutions

  • The Czech Statistical Office (CZSO) enjoys trust of 63% of citizens, whereas 21% of them mistrust it. This evaluation is very favourable in comparison to other institutions. Among institutions that were included in the opinion poll or that have been researched recently, the CZSO was evaluated the best. Only mayors and local councils are, as for the level of trust, on a comparable level with the CZSO, however, with a higher proportion of those who explicitly mistrust them.
  • Regarding the public awareness, work of the CZSO is mainly connected with the Population and Housing Census and a survey on the population size. However, a significant majority of citizens also connects the CZSO with processing of election results, monitoring of the economic development, or publishing and providing of surveyed information. A rather widespread mistake is an idea that the CZSO carries out pre-election polls.
  • A vast majority of the public considers the CZSO itself and its activity to be useful.
  • The Czech public acquaints itself with information of the CZSO definitely most often in the media. 27% of respondents at least sometimes actively seek information of the CZSO on their own.
  • Most of the respondents consider information provided by the CZSO to be trustworthy, accurate, and politically unbiased. However, when it comes to the question whether publishing of information of the CZSO is influenced by the political or economic situation there is a big disunity and uncertainty about that. The uncertainty also applies to those groups among the public, who are more experienced with the CZSO and its outputs, who have more positive approach to the CZSO, and who should be, theoretically, relatively more competent as to evaluating this question than the average of the population.
  • The CZSO is considered to be a professional institution by three quarters of citizens.
  • Only minimal changes or minor fluctuations have been emerging in the time series of variables monitoring attitudes of the public to the CZSO since 2006, although as for other institutions, which are close to the CZSO by their nature, significant negative shifts occurred (often under an influence of concrete events like with the Supreme Audit Office (NKÚ) in the past or recently regarding the Czech National Bank).
